October 7, 2021"1.Organik Fest Srpske", the first organic fair of this kind in the Republic of Srpska, the entity of Bosnia and Herzegovina celebrated the regional organic producers but also highlighted the need for EO-based land monitoring. Read to learn how DIONE contributed to this task!
The DIONE project was successfully promoted at the first organic production fair of Republic of Srpska, the entity of Bosnia and Herzegovina titled “1. Organic Fest Srpske”, from September 24-26, 2021. in Banja Luka.
The event organized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management of Republic of Srpska and the Chamber of Commerce of Republic of Srpska gathered about thirty exhibitors of organic products from Republic of Srpska and Serbia.
The three-day affair took place in the Delta Planet mall, where exhibitors presented their projects. In addition, there were panel sessions, a round table, and workshops about the potential of the organic produce market, as well as about the ever-growing need for gradual substitute of the ‘on-the-spot-checks’ with a system of automated checks based on Earth observation (EO) Copernicus Sentinel satellite data. The DIONE project was, therefore presented as one of the prime examples of EU projects dedicated to providing organic certification bodies, among other stakeholders, with EO-based technical solutions for land monitoring. DIONE EO component is already enabling such actions by using Copernicus Sentinel Hub information/images based on DIAS to produce enhanced crop-type maps and non-productive EFAs maps.
Overall, the fair represents the great success both for the regional development of organic goods market, as well as for introducing the certification bodies and wider audience to the benefits of digitalized control process of the organic production, thus bringing DIONE closer to fulfilling one its’ most essential goals.
