DIABALKANIKO KENTRO PERIBALLONTOS (i-BEC) is a non-profit and mission oriented international organisation and a public-private network that links local communities and countries in the wider Balkan area, with EU and UN agencies. i-BEC supports and co-develops with Aristotle University of Thessaloniki state of the art technologies and innovative research, for sustainable management of natural resources and environmental protection.
i-BEC promotes a collaborative approach to sustainable management and protection of natural resources that fosters harmonious socio-economic development in Greece, the broader Balkan region and beyond. Facing emerging global challenges, i-BEC acts through a global network in cooperation with governmental organizations, research institutes and the private sector.
Through DIONE, i-BEC explores the possibilities for utilization of microelectromechanical systems (MEMs) in the agricultural practises (irrigation & fertilization) and their role in the new CAP, which is fully aligned with their current interest in development, standardization and customization of MEMs for the determination of soil properties. Beside the tremendous experience in the development of spectrometry solutions and even their own product - a soil scanner, the usage of low-cost hand-held sensors will deepen their expertise even further. Last, but not least, i-BEC is developing low-cost, more user-friendly and efficient sensors which will the lead the company to extended partners base of agro-cooperatives.
